Michelle Wasserman Chef
Michelle has been in Athens for over 25 years, hailing from Cleveland, OH. She attended Ohio University for Communications and Hocking College for Natural & Historical Interpretation. She began her cooking career here in 1999 at the iconic Burrito Buggy and focused her energy learning the restaurant business during her decade as a worker-owner at Casa Nueva. Working with local farmers and vendors during her tenure, as well as focusing on organic and sustainable foods and practices has always been important to Michelle.
In 2015, Michelle and her partner opened Nixtamalized, a mobile kitchen that served authentic Mexican food. She brought her roots and creativity to that project with special Rosh Hashanah tamales (ropa vieja, apples and honey) and the delicious "Matzamale" (tamales made with matzo ball dough, stuffed with chicken, carrot, celery and onion). You will find her in the kitchen every Shabbat, sometimes with her best sous chef, Ori (her kiddo). She is thrilled to share her culinary creativity and favorite recipes with the Hillel community, from classic American Ashkenazi to Israeli. |
